Getting Ready!

I decided to start a blog about my journey to and in Uganda (for those who do not know, Uganda is in East Africa). I am going on a two week long trip to Uganda in Africa with a group of graduate students from the dance education program that I am in, at NYU. There is approximately about 15 of us mostly all women, and one male. We will learn East African dance, drumming, and culture. We will also collaborate with the University in Kampala to create a integrated dance curriculum for the students at the Queens Ballet school (some from orphanages). We will also visit the wildlife in the forest, and national parks. We will row a boat down the root of the Nile river, we will visit orphanages throughout the surrounding area around Kampala, we will visit tombs, and museums. We are doing all of this within two-weeks! It seems like too little time, but I will take whatever I can get and absorb it for a lifetime.

As the days go by faster, I am getting closer to a trip of a lifetime. As of now I am getting ready. Buying travel sized shampoo, conditioner, soap, DEET, etc. Along with gifts for the many less fortunate people who we will encounter along the way. Also trying to figure out how I will pack everything I need in one suitcase... yikes!

My journey starts off in London. I will visit my friend Rebecca for 5 days, before I catch the plane to Entebbe, Uganda. I am still a little undecided of EXACTLY what I want to do in London. I have never been there, so I want to experience everything. Of course I want to do the usual touristy things like the Tower of London, London Bridge, Buckingham Palace, Westminster, Westminster Abbey, the Tate Modern, and the list goes on. I also want to see the locals perspective. Being a New Yorker I strive to not be the usual "tourist." I want to experience everything like the locals do. I am also tossed up on if I want to take a day trip to Stonehenge or my (distant) families castle somewhere in the country.

I am running out of time! I leave for London on Sunday, and before that I spend Christmas in Massachusetts with the family. I can't believe this trip has snuck up on me so fast.

Until then...
